When we all started our blogs at the very beginning of this movement, it was often because we were passionate about a specific topic. We had something to say and wanted to share our thoughts with readers. But after a while, especially if your site enjoys some success, a question arises: how can you transform your effort and passion into dollars in your pocket?
Before you start earning a few hundred per month, I suggest you think about which kind of moves you are willing to make in order to make money with your blog.
This is probably the most basic and the easiest way to make money with your blog. Search engine results often depend on the number of
links towards a specific site. Several companies are willing to pay in exchange for you to publish links in hopes of improving their ranking.
They are easy to install on your blog and most companies are willing to pay a monthly fee. Therefore, with a paypal subscription system, you can earn decent income from selling links. How much can you charge? Due to what follows in this post, I’d say that you should not be afraid to ask for $35 and more per month for a decent blog.
The problem with text links
While money comes easy with text links, many bloggers and SEO experts warn any individual who wants to sell them. Why? Because the big G may penalize your website for selling links. If it happens, you can see your Page Rank drop to 0 and you will also see your search engine traffic falling.
For my latest blog, Do Not Wait!, I have decided not to sell links and make money differently.
There are a ton of companies that are willing to sell their products through affiliate partners. It’s a real win-win situation since you can make money without having to take care of producing, packaging and delivering anything!
However, the downside with affiliate programs is that you are basically selling something to your reader. Do you want to sell stuff on your blog? How will your readers react to product promotions? Are you willing to endorse what you are promoting? These are very important questions to answer before you start selling anything online.
I guess that the easiest way to make money with affiliate programs is to promote products that you are currently using and that you like. On the other hand, it limits what you can use from affiliate partners…
Offering your own products/services to make money online
The last option you have is to sell your own products or offer services to make money with your blog. If you have an expertise in a specific field or your industry, you can try to sell an ebook or your consulting services.
If you are very courageous, you can also launch yourself into t-shirts or other goods ;-). The sky is the limit with the combination of your blog and your products. However, before starting just anything, I suggest you think how you will ship, package and charge your clients. The logistics will require more time to establish correctly.
Final thoughts on making money with your blog
Can you make money online? Yes. How much? It all depends on how much time and effort you want to invest in your product. For example, if you just plug a few banners on your site and think that you will make money through affiliate programs, you are dreaming. Advertising on a blog requires more consumer psychology knowledge than you might expect. Your readers are clever and will know the difference between a sponsored review and an honest opinion.
My last piece of advice: Don’t try to make a quick buck and burn your reputation!
